Inner Wheel District 14

Inner Wheel District 14

About District 14

District14 is a small District encompassing parts of Hampshire, Surrey and Middlesex.
We have links with the military with the home of the British Army at Aldershot, the home of flying in the UK at Farnborough, where a prestigious airshow is held every two years, and the Sandhurst Military Academy in Camberley.
The Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, with its Victorian glasshouses including the iconic Palm House, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its vast and diverse living plant collections and well worth a visit.
Hampton Court Palace, of Henry VIII fame, is also worth visiting, especially when the Flower Show is on.
The Thames flows through much of our District and boating on the river is very popular. For those with more energy, Wimbledon offers lawn tennis and Thorpe Park has thrilling roller coasters and rides.

There is always something to see or do in District14 and you will have a warm welcome from any of the Inner Wheel clubs in the area as they work to help and support their communities.

District Chairman

District Chairman Sue Hopgood

Welcome

Welcome to the Inner Wheel District 14 Website.

I am delighted and honoured to take up the role of District Chair this year, 2026 to 2027.  I joined the Inner Wheel Club of Farnborough in 2018 and have just completed my year as Club President of the merged clubs of Farnborough and Aldershot.  During the last eight years I have taken on the roles of Club and District International Services Officer, and Club and District Membership and Development Officer, thoroughly enjoying them all.  I have also served on the Association’s Membership and Development Committee and supported the Association’s Executive Committee as they developed their strategic direction.

I am fully committed to Inner Wheel as it is a wonderful international women’s organisation that successfully blends community and international service with fun and friendship.  This year, our International President has chosen the theme: "Grow and Flourish".  Together with my District Executive Team we will guide our clubs and members to explore fresh ways to strengthen fellowship, enhance personal acts of service, and deepen our international understanding.   My motto this year is a quote from Michelle Obama "There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish"

Outside of Inner Wheel I am a Francophile and visit Normandy in France regularly.  I enjoy U3A activities including walking, Pilates, wine tasting and French.  I am also very enthusiastic about horse racing and attend race meetings across the UK and France.  At home any spare time I have is spent in my “Woman’s Cave”; my sewing room.

I am really looking forward to seeing everyone at the District Meetings and District Rallies, and when I travel around the District visiting Clubs.  Wishing everyone a joyful, vibrant, and highly successful year of friendship and service!

Who we support

My chosen charity is Refuge; a charity providing specialist support for women and children experiencing domestic violence. Inner Wheel will be championing Orange the World again this year, a UN Initiative to eliminate violence against women and girls.  As one the UK's largest specialist domestic abuse organisations, Refuge provides a lifeline for thousands of women and children.  Our fundraising will directly support emergency safe houses and the 24-hour emergency helpline.

Mary’s Meals serves nutritious school meals to children living in some of the world’s poorest communities. The promise of a good meal attracts these hungry children into the classroom, giving them the energy to learn and hope for a better future.

Support will also be given to President Pat's chosen charity, Papyrus www.papyrus-uk.org
