About the Town

Havant is situated mid-way between Portsmouth and Chichester . Because of the presence of natural springs, with good quality water filtered by the South Downs, there is evidence of settlements from pre Roman times. From this time the local commerce depended upon water, with many water mills for manufacture of parchment, glove making and brewing.  Much of Havant was destroyed by fire in 1760, leaving only the church and a few cottage.
It now has busy and diverse light industries and tech companies including those involved in aerospace and marine development.
There are excellent communication by train and road to all parts of the United Kingdom, and , to Europe,  by sea from Portsmouth.

About the Club

The Inner Wheel Club of Havant was chartered in 1959, so we fairly recently celebrated our Golden Anniversary. We meet once a month at a local hotel for dinner, usually followed by an interesting speaker.
Our range of activities goes from social events like picnics in a member’s orchard, keeping in touch with our local Rotary Club – we usually win the hotly contested skittles match, and fund raising through  many diverse events. There are lunches and teas with a good speaker each year. Our favourite fund-raising activity is supplying tea and cake to the visitors at the local lavender farm.
We look after each other and others in the community. For example, there is an annual Drive Out for senior citizens to see the autumn colours, after which a cream tea in a local garden centre is enjoyed by all. Throughout the year, there is support for the local refuge run by Stop Domestic Abuse.
