Who we support
DC Helens chosen charity is SERV WESSEX
We are a 100% volunteer service run solely on charitable donations.
SERV Wessex – The Blood Runners is a registered charity (No. 1156383) that delivers blood products, urgent samples and medication from Hospital Pharmacies. The service supports Hampshire, South Wiltshire and Dorset and operates 24/7.
Our operating costs per year is circa £35k and we need a further £25k to enable us to replace ageing vehicles coming to the end of their service life.
SERV Wessex transports a wide-range of items on behalf of the patients and staff of the NHS.
- Samples for analysis by pathology and microbiology laboratories
- Human milk
- X-rays, scans and CDs
- Medication and controlled drugs from Hospital Pharmacies
- Heart Monitors for transportation back to Hospital Cardiac Units
- Patient notes
- Any other medical items or small pieces of medical equipment
This year our chosen District International Charity is Aquabox.
Disasters be they natural or man-made, such as earthquakes, flooding, drought, hurricanes and conflicts do not always respect national borders. They cause devastating disruption and can result in many thousands displaced from their homes and deprived of the most fundamental necessities of life including the need for safe drinking water.
Since its creation in 1992, working with international aid agencies and distribution partners on the ground, Aquabox has sent its AquaFilters and Aid Boxes to more than 50 countries around the world, helping hundreds of thousands of people survive in times of crisis.
Each Aquabox Gold Box is tailored to support a family group and contains purification filters as well as items of humanitarian aid to help with shelter, lighting, cooking and hygiene. This life saving aid is funded exclusively by donations and from fundraising events.
Aquabox will be the main beneficiary at our International Rally which this year takes place on November 16th 2022 at The Hamworthy Club, Canford Magna.
The District 11 Year
Unfortunately, we didn’t have many members present and it was the first time that there were not sufficient voting delegates for a quorum, so any voting required will have to be ratified at the next District meeting in November.
All the members that came enjoyed the venue, as it is a very accessible location. The hall had plenty of tables, chairs etc to spread ourselves out. The kitchen was also well equipped for serving teas and coffees.
Viv Carter from ‘The Honeypot Charity’ came as our speaker, she gave a very engaging and interesting talk as she told us how they coped and helped the children and families during the pandemic. Any clubs interested in visiting Honeypot will be very welcome. Please contact: email@example.com to arrange a date.
Many members were sharing their lunches in their groups and socialising with Inner Wheel fellowship and friendship.
Thank you, DC Helen, for organising the day.
