Inner Wheel District 9

District 9 Chairman

District Chairman for 2023/24
Hilary Tindall

A warm welcome to our District 9 website page, at the beginning of a very special year for Inner Wheel, the year of our Centenary celebrations. We shall be supporting Association President Anthea’s idea of ‘100 for 100’ at our District Inner Wheel Day in January 2024. This year is also significant for District 9, as it marks our 80th Anniversary year!

My chosen charity for this year is Medical Detection Dogs, which carries out groundbreaking research to improve the early diagnosis of cancer and other diseases and also trains dogs to support people with life-threatening conditions. I am sure that clubs in District 9 will do their best to support this worthwhile charity, alongside all the good work members will be doing to improve things for many others in their communities.

Who we are

There are over 100,000 members of Inner Wheel worldwide in 100 different countries, making us one of the largest all-female organisations in the world.

Our aims are;
– promote true friendship
– to encourage the ideals of personal service
– to foster international understanding

International Service

District 9 have chosen The Book Bus as their International Service Charity for 2023/24. This is also the Association international charity for the next two years.

This charity is committed to changing lives by improving literacy and access to books and reading opportunities.

You can find out more at: https://thebookbus.org/

Who we support

Medical Detection Dogs is at the forefront of innovative research into dogs’ ability to detect the smell of human diseases and save lives. They believe that their work will have global impact and lead to earlier and much improved detection of cancer and other deadly diseases, as well as contributing to the fight against anti-microbial resistance.

Using their amazing sense of smell, dogs can also be trained to identify minute odour changes emitted prior to an emergency and alert the person to take preventative action. By assisting individuals with their condition, their trained dogs help reduce 999 calls and hospital admissions, giving people and their families/carers greater confidence and independence, enabling them to lead a full and happy life.

Further information about the charity can be found here.
