Inner Wheel Club of Stranraer Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of District 23
Photo showing Aileen Brewis, Lord Lieutenant for Wigtownshire and a member of our club, planting a rowan tree to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The photo shows Janet McMillan planting a crab apple tree to commemorate D.23 Fiftieth anniversary. Janet is our longest serving member – 52 years.
The trees were planted in Aldouran Wetlands in Leswalt close to Stranraer. The local community took over a marshy area of land near the village and have created an area of interest for the local community and local schools. Red squirrels are thriving and water fowl are attracted to the pond areas. Many families have provided benches and picnic tables in memory of relatives who have passed away and these are also enjoyed by many visitors to the Wetlands.
