Where do we meet?
Dundee Inner Wheel is part of Inner Wheel District 1, and we meet at the Woodlands Hotel, 13 Panmure Terrace, Broughty Ferry, Dundee DD5 2QL. Meetings are held at 2.15pm on the 3rd Thursday of each month. No formal meetings are held in July & August but coffee mornings, fundraising and social events continue throughout the year.
Our Club
Dundee is one of the longest established clubs in our District. Chartered in 1947, the Club celebrated 75 years in October 2022. We currently have 32 members and keep in touch with a monthly newsletter, the Hub. As well as the monthly meetings members enjoy coffee mornings, outings and supporting local charities and international projects by fundraising and with practical support.
Our City – Dundee
Discovery Point – Dundee
Scotland’s fourth-largest city, situated on the north bank of the Firth of Tay, Dundee was an important east coast trading port, becoming the centre of the global jute industry. Along with its other major industries, this gave Dundee its epithet as the city of “jute, jam and journalism”. Dundee is now promoted as “One City, Many Discoveries” in honour of Dundee’s history of scientific activities and of the Dundee-built RRS Discovery, Robert Falcon Scott’s Antarctic exploration vessel. In recent years extensive development of the waterfront has complimented Dundee’s position beside ‘the Silvery Tay’. RRS Discovery is now berthed at Discovery Point beside the VandA Dundee – the first branch of the V&A to operate outside London and forms the centre piece of the waterfront project.
Biosciences and computer games are now firmly associated with Dundee, although journalism is still flourishing. In 2014, Dundee was recognised by the United Nations as the UK’s first UNESCO City of Design for its diverse contributions to fields including medical research, comics and video games. Dundee’s maritime and industrial past is brought to life at the city’s museums at Discovery Point and Verdant Works. A theatre and arts company, simply known as Dundee Rep stages in-house productions and hosts work from visiting companies including drama, musicals, contemporary and classical dance, comedy, children’s theatre, comedy, jazz and opera.
TOGSs
Carol and Anne attended the Togs Open Day at their new premises in Dundee. TOGS is a non profit organisation serving Dundee and the surrounding areas, who aim to be the ‘go-to’ service for families struggling to provide essential clothing and equipment for their children. ‘The Oddballs’, our crafting ladies, seen above, have done a marvellous job – knitting blankets and squares including these 15 blkankets presented to the Mid Lin Day Care Centre.
100 for 100
Members collected 200 items for the Food Bank as part of the 100 for 100 Challenge. Members delivered to the Food Bank for Inner Wheel day.
‘The Oddballs’ produced 200 bonding squares for Ninewells Premature Baby Unit – 1 square remains with baby, mum & did take the other – then exchange them so that each has a sense of nearness of the other. Lovely banner above is of the ladies who completed this challenge and belkow pic shows their visdit to Ninewells NICU
Putting Competition 2023
President Jacqui presents the trophy to this year’s winner – Pamela, with the other putters, Carol and Margery, looking on. This year the putting trophy was rather grand being the Golf Trophy that Dundee Past President Edith Cram (1971-72) had presented to District One on the occasion of their 30th Anniversary, during Edith’s term as District Chair, 1980-81. (Since the District Golf competition is no longer viable, the Trophy has been returned to Dundee Club).
District Chairman’s visit
District Chairman Annetta finally visited the club in January – as her planned visit was delayed due to a storm. Here she is pictured with members of the club and their food collection for the Dundee Food Bank

Visit to Glendoick
Our Summer Outing was spent at Glendoick Garden Centre – an excellent Afternoon Tea, plenty of chat and a retailing opportunity – perfect
75th Birthday Lunch
The year got off to a flying start when in October we celebrated our 75th Birthday. Clubs across District 1 joined us for a celebratory lunch. The afternoon featured an excellent fashion show by Patricia Forbes of Broughty Ferry. The show was expertly choreographed by the shops Manager Karen, daughter of Margaret Hutcheson, who, as our now longest serving member, cut the Anniversary cake.
