Inner Wheel District 1

Fun & Friendship

About District 1

Inner Wheel District 1 is the most northern of the 29 Districts that make up the Association of Inner Wheel Clubs in GB&I.  It covers most of the north and east of Scotland.  There are 17 clubs in the District with 496 members. All clubs have a formal meeting each month with social and fund raising activities during the year. None of the clubs meet formally in July and August, however social events, fund raising, coffee mornings and walks continue over the summer months.

From our District Chairman, Annetta

Having now completed all my Club visits, may I say I have enjoyed each and every one and greatly appreciate the hospitality and friendship I received.  I am looking forward to meeting you at our District Meeting in Aberdeen and would encourage you all to attend our Rally in May, in Carnoustie, celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Inner Wheel, giving you the opportunity to meet Association President Anthea and our other guests in a lovely setting which I am sure will be a great occasion.  I would remind you to have all your poems submitted by the closing date in March

I was most impressed by all the postings celebrating Inner Wheel Day and your fantastic ideas and efforts in support of Anthea’s 100 for 100 Challenge – keep up the good work.

Don’t forger the International Convention in Manchester in May.   I am also looking forward very much to attending the 100th Birthday Celebration lunch in  London in April, accompanied by 1st Vice-Chair Jean – she will keep me under control !!!!

Ladies, please remember my charity for the year, MS Scotland.  There are some exciting developments taking place – the Octopus Trial, testing multiple drugs at one time and comparing with single control groups and also some DNA research into the origin of DNA genes which apparently can be traced back to over 5,000 years.

Yours in Friendship,

                                         Annetta xx

Margarette Golding Award

Congratulations to our Member of Council, Lesley Niven  has been presented with the Margarette Golding Award, for over 30 years dedicated to helping Stroke survivors at the Phoenix Club.  She is a driving force as a Trustee and an invaluable, caring and efficient team member.   Fantastic news, Lesley – wonderful  achievement!

The Book Bus

District 1 amassed a mountain of books for this project – so much that the organisers came with the bus to the home of our ISC Nanette where over 50 boxes of books were loaded.  Nanette and Jessie are seen with Monica and David Gordon of the Book Bus Zambia loading all the books.  Great effort from all our clubs!

With Association President

In July Annetta travelled to Gloucester to attend the District 10 Rally.  Here she is pictured with Association President Anthea Tilsley.
