Ravenshead Attend Convention

Ravenshead Attend Convention

Ravenshead Inner Wheel Club
This month has been celebrating our Centenary Year in Manchester for our International Convention where it all started in 1924. Margarette Golding was the wife of a Rotarian which at that time was a club for men. Margarette decided to contact the wives of the Rotarians and formed the first Inner Wheel Club, which is now the largest women’s voluntary service organisation. This event was attended by over 2400 women from clubs all over the world. I personally met ladies from Melbourne Australia, India, Bangladesh, Turkey, Sweden, USA, Cyprus, Greece, Nigeria, Italy there were many more countries represented.
We had 3 days of business, speakers, friendship dinners and a Gala dinner on the last evening with entertainment. The theme was the 1920’s so everyone dressed appropriately as Flapper girls. It was a great night with plenty of dancing after the meal.
On Saturday our Rotary Club of Ravenshead and Blidworth held a very successful Piano Extravaganza at St. Peters Church. The Inner Wheel Club served refreshments in the interval which made over £145 which will go to President Kathy Kings charity – Blood Bikes. We are lucky that our two clubs support one another at different events.
The next event we will be helping at is the Rotary annual Quiz Night on June 15th at the village hall. Tickets are now available.
