IW Nantwich Club Visit Glossop to Hear Nicola Mills.

Four intrepid members of Nantwich Inner Wheel made the journey across Cheshire to Glossop to enjoy a concert by Nicola Mills, “Opera for the People”. We heard Nicola at the Manchester International Inner Wheel Convention last year. She is a trained professional opera singer and musician and a member of Inner Wheel. Having worked trained at the Northern College of Music and then worked at many European Opera houses, principally the Dutch Opera and the Flemish Opera as well as our own Glyndebourne, she now runs her own company that aims to bring opera to the ordinary person.

We had not a programme, but a menu. There was a variety of glorious music that we could choose. In the first act we called out, but the second act Nicola chose the songs from request slips we wrote in the interval. Through the music Nicola talked about the songs and the operas or musicals they came from, as well as parts of her own journey through learning and performing some of the most challenging and exquisite music there is. The evening was thrilling, uplifting as well as funny. Much laughter and joy until it was “Time to say Goodbye”.

We Nantwich Ladies had our photo onstage with Nicola and were joined by a friend from Marple and Goyt Valley Club, all of us from District 5. If you ever want a truly individual and memorable evening, then consider following Nicola Mills and finding where she is performing next.
