Inner Wheel District 9

District 9 Chair

District Chair for 2022/23

Judith Elliot

I joined Inner Wheel in 2013 and after that first meeting, which was filled with laughter, I knew it was something that I wanted to be part of. I have loved being involved in the many fundraising activities and know that the friendships I have made will be lifelong.

Let’s celebrate what we have, which is a great District with loving, caring members. While our clubs do face challenges, there are different ways of working and we have seen great examples of people sharing roles at club and District level.

There will be times when things go awry during the coming year, but we are primarily a friendship group, and friends forgive one another when mistakes are made. After the disruption of the last two years I really want us to get back to the essence of fun and friendship within Inner Wheel.

My chosen charity for this year is Young Adult Carers, which is part of CarersBucks. These are young people aged 16-25, who find themselves caring for a loved one, at a time when they should be discovering their own oath in life. The charity runs workshops for employment, support groups and offers advice and information.

Who we are

There are over 100,000 members of Inner Wheel worldwide in 100 different countries, making us one of the largest all-female organisations in the world.

Our aims are;

– to promote true friendship
– to encourage the ideals of personal service
– to foster international understanding

There are now three possible routes to membership:

Membership may be taken up by the following, provided that they are over 18 years old:

  • Women with a connection to Inner Wheel Members / former Inner Wheel members
  • Women with a connection to Rotarians/former Rotarians
  • Women over 18 yrs who share our ideals, with the club’s consent

This District has 7 Inner Wheel Clubs in the following locations which meet once a month. District 9 includes clubs in Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

Who we support

The charity supports unpaid young adult carers, as one of their initiatives to help those who look after someone who cannot manage without them because they are ill, frail or have a disability.

Teams are here to support  young carers aged 16-25 with concerns or questions. Resources have been developed to support mental health and wellbeing, with activities and games to help young people deal with stress and loneliness.

There is a referral service for individuals who might benefit from support from the Young Carers Team.

Further information about the charity can be found here
