About District 3
District 3 consists of 9 Clubs stretching from Berwick-upon-Tweed which is close to the Scottish Border to Guisborough & Great Ayton which is the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales and Moors and across to Hexham & Tynedale which is in the Tyne Valley. Within this area we have stunning beaches, incredible scenery and more Castles than anywhere else in the country. Clubs meet every month apart from August. Each Club arranges its own speakers and events. Some Clubs still have InterClub and Birthday lunches which are always very enjoyable events.
Not quite at the halfway point is the iconic Angel of the North. It is 20 meters high and is embedded on concrete piles weighing 150 tonnes. These anchor the Angel to rock 20m underground. On a sunny day the Angel’s rusty patina takes on a warm glow that can be seen for miles around. The wings of the Angel are angled forward at 3.5 degrees to create a sense of embrace.

This is my second term as District Chairman, the first in 1997/1998 with our Association President being Eileen Harsant.
I was a Member of Council in 2020 and then three years on the Conference Committee, firstly as Transport then Stewarding then seating. Following this I then served as Conference Chairman - a most interesting position for three years.
I became Association Vice-President in 2012, Association President in 2013. I was Past Association President and National Representative in 2014.
I am also Secretary and Club Correspondent of my Club. We have 18 members with me being the youngest! This has been the case in two of the three Clubs I have been a member of. I will have been a member of Inner Wheel for 48 years in September of this year.

Who we support
Literacy in a Box was founded by a member from the Rotary Club of Roborough, Plymouth, inspired by his experiences in sub-Saharan Africa. The initiative aims to address the educational needs of children, particularly in Zambia, by supplying them with essential school materials packed in durable boxes. Each box contains enough supplies for 25 students, including items like pens, pencils, paper, and chalk. The primary goal of Literacy in a Box is to ensure that every child has access to basic educational resources which is crucial for their development and future opportunities. The program not only provides materials but also fosters partnerships between UK schools and Zambian schools thus enhancing educational experiences for both. Since its inception, the initiative has delivered educational aid to nearly 50 schools positively impacting thousands of children who previously lacked access to necessary supplies.
Support will also be given to President Pat's chosen charity, Papyrus www.papyrus-uk.org
The International charity remains as Mary's Meals
There is gender inequality in education around the world, but by providing daily meals in school, we remove one hugely significant barrier for girls, giving them opportunities that they otherwise may not have.
