Inner Wheel District 19

About District 19

Welcome to District 19 Inner wheel.

There are 15 Clubs in District 19 spread across the Lake District and Cumbria from Penrith IW Club down through North Lancashire to Blackburn IW Club.

District 19 meets four times a year November, March, June, and July, plus we hold an International Rally in October and our District Rally on 10th March 2025.

Clubs meet monthly, some clubs twice a month, organising events including speakers, outings, fundraising initiatives, and plenty of fun activities. We combine friendship and fun to support our local communities and provide aid internationally. We are enormously proud to be part of a worldwide IIW organization, active in 100 countries with over 100,000 members.

District Chairman

District Chairman Jan Winnard

Welcome

My name is Jan Winnard and I am delighted and very proud to be Chairman of District 19. I have been a member of the Inner Wheel Club of Garstang and Over Wyre for 25 years (President 4 times) and we have 3 Past District Chairman still active members of my club, so I have a lot to live up to!

All members enjoyed celebrating the Centenary year along with the International Inner Wheel convention, held in Manchester. Our clubs are at the Heart of their Communities and this links to the GB&I logo and IIW logo – Heartbeat of Humanity – Every Beat Counts, Every Action Matters.

Our Association President Heather’s focus this year is Friendship and Membership. The special friendships we make through Inner Wheel need to be celebrated and publicized so we can encourage more women to join us.

I volunteer for my chosen district charity of Rosemere, a Cancer Foundation based at Royal Preston Hospital where I work in the cafe, serving many cups of tea and coffee.

Thus, my theme for my year is based on a quote by Eleanor Rosevelt – “A women is like a teabag – You never know how strong it is until it is in hot water” and this links with the melting iceberg theme too. I am giving a teabag to all our members I meet, who work so ha. doing so much good, and then they can go home, relax, and enjoy a nice cuppa. Our district competition is to create a tea cosy in any way they wish! Knit, sew, crochet, paint, recycle and embellish with the winning entry announced at the District Rally.

Who we support

Rosemere Cancer Foundation, Royal Preston Hospital, Preston PR2 9HT

The aim is to work in partnership with local clinical staff to achieve the best possible care for cancer patients in Lancashire and South Cumbria wherever they are treated. We seek to do this by:

  • Funding cutting edge equipment to help clinicians remain at the forefront of the fight against cancer.
  • Supporting innovative ways to take the fear out of cancer for patients and their families during their treatment, making it as comfortable and stress free as possible.
  • Backing local research projects that help improve our understanding of cancer and how it can be better diagnosed and treated.
  • Facilitating top quality training to help clinical staff treating cancer patients be the very best they can be.

D19 Celebration

D19 Celebration

In place of a Rally this year 98 Members of D19 had a great celebration of 100 years of IW at the Midland Hotel Morecambe. We enjoyed a fantastic cake, made by our International officer Elaine, and some amusing poetry from our guest speaker Nigel.    ...
