About District 16
Inner Wheel District 16 comprises 15 Clubs with 324 members throughout Ireland and is one of 29 Districts in Great Britain and Ireland (GB&I). At District we meet 5 times each year and our Inner Wheel year runs from September to June. Clubs meet monthly, organising programmes of events which include guest speakers, social outings, various fundraising initiatives, and fun activities.
Our members combine friendship and fellowship to positively impact the local community and provide aid internationally. We function as part of a Worldwide Inner Wheel organisation which is active in 100 counties with over 100,000 members.
Our fundraising efforts raise money for local, national, and international charities. We also host an Annual District Rally, where we meet to reinforce our positive philosophical and action-oriented approach of friendliness and usefulness.
Friendships are forged in an open non-judgemental way and members have fun working on projects together contributing to a better future for all, as our aims determine.

Sue Pinkerton | Chairman District 16

Who founded Inner Wheel: Inner Wheel was formed in 1924, in Manchester by Margarette Golding and will celebrate 100 years in existence in 2024. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inner_Wheel_Club
Inner Wheel History
The first Club in Ireland was founded in Belfast in 1931 and in Ballymena and Larne in 1945, Newry & Portadown, 1948, City of Derry 1950, and Ballymoney in 1967, and Dublin, 1970. Eventually, as more Clubs were formed, the Association of Inner Wheel Clubs in Great Britain & Ireland with 29 Districts was created, with all of Ireland as District 16. We look forward to the Inner Wheel Centenary in 2024 and to continuing to carry on the long tradition of friendship, fellowship and supporting others.

District Chair Joanne welcomed Inner Wheel Club members from Great Britain and Ireland to District 16 Rally held at Clandeboye Lodge Hotel, Bangor in June. Members were welcomed by the Mayor Gerardine Mulvenny, followed by introductions by Host Club Larne’s President Mary Carmichael.
The rally was addressed by Association President Karen Davies who focused on the importance of growing Inner Wheel membership, commenting that she hoped to see a large attendance at Manchester Centenary Conference in 2024. District 1 Chair Doris Campbell, and District 13 Chair, Kim Tanner, travelled from GB to attend the Rally, and Rotary Governor John Fitzgerald brought greetings from Rotary.
Members were treated to some excellent music and entertainment before Lunch by Beryl Crawford’s husband Alan and participated in a very enjoyable dancing session. Many Clubs were represented on the day and it was reported that everyone in attendance enjoyed an extremely successful Rally, where the sun shone brightly on all.

The aims of Inner Wheel are Friendship, Service to the Community and International Understanding. Members achieve these goals through many club events that combine fund raising, personal service and good fun.
Promote true friendship – Clubs meet regularly and have a full and varied programme, including guest speakers discussing topics of interest. By meeting regularly, friendships are developed and maintained. Annual conferences, international conventions and district rallies extend the friendship circle, providing opportunities to meet other Inner Wheel members from across GB&I and globally.
Encourage ideas of personal service – By working together our Clubs in District 16 have an outstanding record of personal service to their local Communities, and to individuals and groups on a national and international basis, raising charitable funds in imaginative ways.
Foster International understanding – Clubs support the District Chair’s charities, Association President’s Charities, and other international charities. These endeavours encourage, highlight, and create awareness among Clubs and Districts of the importance of supporting people from all over the world. This in turn nurtures Inner Wheel relationships and friendships.
There are 3 routes to membership:
1. Women with a connection to IW members/former members
2. Women with a connection to Rotarians/ former Rotarians
3. Woman over 18 who share our ideals.
