About District 16

Inner Wheel District 16 connects clubs across Ireland in friendship and service. As part of International Inner Wheel, one of the world’s largest women’s voluntary service organisations, we empower women to lead with purpose and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

District 16 unites clubs in a shared commitment to service, international understanding, and positive action. Together, we are women making a difference locally, nationally, and globally.

About Us

Inner Wheel District 16 brings together clubs across Ireland, uniting women who value friendship, service, and international understanding. As a collective, we support charitable, community, and humanitarian initiatives while fostering connection, shared purpose, and meaningful contribution. District 16 provides a strong, collaborative network where members can build lasting friendships and work together to create positive change locally and internationally.

‘Ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann na daoine’. We live in one another’s shelter.

This old Irish proverb expresses the heart of Inner Wheel District 16 — women supporting women,  united in a shared purpose.

District Chairman

District Chairman Doreen Cairns

Welcome

Welcome to Inner Wheel District 16. Our District unites dedicated women from across Ireland who embody our motto, Women in Action. This reflects our shared commitment to service, connection, and making a positive difference, values that lie at the heart of Inner Wheel.

Therefore, I am delighted to be taking on the role of District 16 Chairman. I first joined Lurgan Inner Wheel Club in 2012 and have been privileged to serve in several roles, including Club Treasurer, Club President and District Treasurer.

I joined Portadown Inner Wheel Club twelve months ago and have thoroughly enjoyed becoming part of their Club.

I look forward to a year of continued service and shared achievement. I hope we can all enjoy a wonderful year of Friendship, Service and Fun.

What We Do

  • Support charitable work at local and national level
  • Encourage leadership and personal development
  • Strengthen international understanding through global connections
  • Foster fellowship and friendship among members

Our work blends long‑standing Inner Wheel values with a forward‑looking approach that responds to the changing needs of society.

Who we support

This year my chosen charities Autism NI and AS I AM, Ireland’s Autism Charity, focus on providing evidence‑based advice, resources, and guidance to autistic people their families and children with neurodiverse conditions. Their mission is to help create a more inclusive and accepting society, one where every autistic person is valued, respected, and supported as they are. Both organisations play an important role in empowering families and strengthening community understanding.
