About District 15

District 15 covers the counties of Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire on the West coast of Wales, part of Powys in Mid Wales and across the South Wales counties to Gwent in the East. All clubs meet at least once a month (apart from August) with fun and fellowship on the agenda.

Our activities include lots of coffee mornings, lunches and afternoon teas. This is often where we raise money for charities, and where we come up with more interesting ideas on how to do so whilst we are socializing and enjoying each other’s company. Recent fundraising ventures have included a sponsored walk along the entire Pembrokeshire Coastal Path (not all at once), making masks during the Covid pandemic and a Zipworld Challenge.

Who we are

The senior club in District 15 is Newport.

Mrs Margerette Golding travelled down to visit on 20th June 1931, so the Club dates itself from this visit, when they were inaugurated as an Inner Wheel Club. There were 33 Inner Wheel Clubs around GB & I at this time and Newport became the first in Wales. It started with 39 members, and a yearly subscription of 2 shillings (10p in decimal currency!). The photograph above shows some of Newport’s founder members. How times have changed!

Who we support

Our Association

Our Association President’s Charity this year is BEAT. Beat is the UK’s leading charity supporting those affected by eating disorders and campaigning on their behalf. Founded in 1989 as the Eating Disorders Association, it celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2019.

Our District

Our District Chairman’s Charity this year is SSAFA, supporting members and families of current and ex-servicemen in all the UK armed forces. It provides that support in many ways – providing welfare services, benefits advice, helping the return to civilian life,  providing emotional and physical support to older veterans and their families, and support after bereavement. At our Rally in October, we raised £556 for SSAFA (on the day).

Our Immediate Past District Chairman’s charity was “Hearing Dogs for the Deaf”. Pauline presented Cate and mum Joanna (both hearing impaired) – not forgetting Marshall, the hearing dog – with a cheque for £2400.

Our Clubs

Each Inner Wheel Club also decides what other charities they would like to support – some are local, some Wales or UK wide, and also International Charities, both small and large.

Recently Briton Ferry Club have celebrated their 40th Anniversary, Machen their 50th , Cwmbran their 60th, and Carmarthen, Aberdare and the District itself, their 85th. Let’s keep this going!

The District 15 Year

In October 2022, the Inner Wheel Club of Machen were 50 years young. We enjoyed celebrating this milestone with them.

In 2023 Cwmbran celebrated 60 years, and Carmarthen celebrated 85 years of service. Congratulations to all.

District 15 itself also celebrated 85 years of service.
