About District 13
We call ourselves “Inner Wheel in London” and the eight clubs in this district are in various London boroughs, with Chelsea and Westminster club meeting in central London. The district was founded in 1933 and we were delighted when our new club of South East London was chartered in 2024, Inner Wheel’s 100th anniversary year. It was the Association’s first new club for the new century.
With London’s excellent public transport facilities, our District meetings and Rallies always take place in the central area.
Because of our location, we have many requests from visiting overseas Inner Wheel members to meet with our members, whilst they are on visits to London. In this way we have forged many friendships from around the world.
Each of our clubs in District 13 has something special and unique. It might be a great social programme, a special annual event or just a pleasant venue where at each monthly meeting friends get together and share each other’s company.
District Chairman
District Chairman Sue Jessel
Welcome
I am an “Inner Wheel baby” as my mother joined the then Brighton club in the early 1970s. I joined the Inner Wheel Club of Southgate in 1997 and very shortly after that, became club treasurer. I first joined the district executive committee as its treasurer in 2001, becoming District Chairman in 2006. I have since served as District Editor and I also get involved with producing the district’s magazine. So,18 years later and I find myself in the hot seat again. Where has the time gone? So much has changed since 2006, we have fewer clubs for sure, many advances in technology, undoubtedly, but our amazing friendship and service remain constant.
I have discovered over the years that it is definitely the case that the more you put into something, the more you get out of it. The wonderful friends I have made through Inner Wheel by contributing to my club and by volunteering to take District office have paid me back tenfold for the time spent “doing things” for Inner Wheel.
And that’s without the “feel good” factor I think a lot of us receive when we join together in performing acts of service in the community or when we raise significant funds for causes at home and abroad.
So, in our district’s 91st year, I look forward to meeting members from around London and attending the rallies of some of our eight link districts.
I hope we can build on all the work of those energetic members who came before us so that we can hand on a vibrant district for the future.

Who we support
I have known for a few years that there are many young carers in our city ranging in age from around 3 to 18 years. Our London boroughs’ Carers Centres know who some of them are, but sadly, not all. There are over 500 in my borough of Enfield.
Instead of sending donations to district, my request is that each club supports its own borough’s young carers group.
Clubs have been asked to contact them, introduce themselves as Inner Wheel members and find out what help is needed. It might be that they would welcome Christmas or Easter gifts for the young people, an outing or help in some other form including straight donations. At the end of the Inner Wheel year, I shall be asking clubs to let me know what each has done for Young Carers in their area and how the funds were raised. In addition to supporting these young people, I am hoping it will bring some much-needed publicity for our organisation.
Our International Service Organiser has chosen Médecins Sans Frontières (“MSF” – Doctors Without Borders) for clubs to support this year. Our International Service Rally on 4th November is being held on Zoom so that our Inner Wheel friends from around the UK and overseas will be able to join us making it a truly international event.
