At our April meeting Ely Inner Wheel’s guest speaker was Adam Mitchell who gave an interesting talk on Bonsai trees. He explained the history of bonsai trees which were invented by Buddhist monks who needed to transport herbal medicines around when travelling to patients. Visiting Japanese diplomats and monks took the idea. back to Japan where it was developed into an art form Adam brought a range of bonsai trees to show members the process of growing a tree and the various tools he uses to train and prune the trees. Member Pauline Lancaster was particularly keen to ask for tips as she had kept bonsai trees for several years with varying success.
