D5 Hazel Grove Supporting Wellspring Charity

Wearing her new IW logo sweatshirt Moyra was ready to begin her one night rough sleepout in Stockport. An event to raise awareness and funds for The Wellspring homeless charity close to St Mary’s Parish church in Stockport
She arrived at 6-30pm and signed in with a project worker and joined her group of 10 and the other 60 people of all ages taking part.
The homeless are registered at Wellspring and are provided with a pop up tent and sleeping bag. Some stay around St Mary’s church, while others follow the course of the Mersey but remain close to town. Sadly, this may often be their last resting place.
Moyra felt very anxious as she prepared to settle down in her tent. The eerie noises of the night, the sound of the church clock and overhead planes did nothing to dispel her fears and had a powerful effect on her.
Project workers monitor the men and women and have a good relationship with their members. They provide a hot lunch, showers and dry clothing. Snacks are also available in the night if it is very cold. All the food has been donated.
Healthcare is available, working with partner agencies, and follow up’s are arranged if necessary.
The Wellspring building is modern and welcoming, and furnished with muted colours, which gives a calming atmosphere. The caring staff strive to support their members return back to society in time, and find their roles very fulfilling.
Moyra, a retired Health visitor from Bramhall, raised an amazing £835!
The Inner Wheel Club of Hazel Grove continue to support the work of Wellspring as they have done for over 15 years.
Well done Moyra!
