D24 – International Projects and Recycling

Jane Brown, International Service Chair hosted an International Service Rally on 3rd May 2025 at Rayleigh Parish Centre.
Each club was invited to bring a table top display to show the Overseas Charities they support.

Tea and coffee were served before Jane introduced Mr Greg Morris, the Chairman of Hamlin Fistula Uk. Greg gave a very enlightening insight about how the charity supports women with childbirth injuries in Ethiopia.
Jane was very pleased to present Greg with a cheque for £557.00 which, added to a cheque sent to them last December means she had exceeded her target of £750, the cost of one corrective fistula operation.

She also presented a beautiful flower arrangement, made by D24 Chairman Elizabeth Stedman, to Janice Flick for all her help with raising funds by selling books that are donated by club members.  The money raised went initially to the Book Bus Project and is now being shared between Hamlin Fistula UK and Mary’s Meals.

Jane’s Club of Basildon had been busy preparing salads and desserts for lunch which were enjoyed by all present.

After lunch a film was shown about Mary’s Meals which is our District’s other overseas charity.  Geraldine Beaurain, a member of the IW Club of Chelmsford Mildmay is an ambassador for Mary’s Meals and spoke briefly after the film, offering to show it at club meetings if requested.
