D24 – Basildon Inner Wheel Orange the World

At our November meeting we invited District Chairman Elizabeth to give a talk about Orange the World.

President Carol made scarves and Brenda made orange poppies that were sold to be worn during the campaign and to raise funds for St Lukes Hospice.

Members also filled orange boxes.

Carol, a prospective member and a friend made a post box topper.

Sue, one of our members  contacted the Leader of Basildon Council to ask if the BASILDON sign on the A127 could be lit in orange, this was successful.

Sue also approached Thurrock Council, and the Thameside Theatre was lit for one day.  Lakeside shopping Centre was also lit in Orange because of Sue’s efforts.

In Rayleigh we entered a tree In the Holy Trinity Church Christmas Tree Festival, it was decorated fully in orange and information on Orange the World and Inner Wheel was available.

Finally, we obtained a market stall on Rayleigh Market for one day on 3rd December, it was decorated in Orange, we had photographs of our Tree from the Tree Festival and information on Orange the World and Inner Wheel.

We spoke to a number of people including police and council officers and were able to explain the campaign.
