D1 Meeting Aberdeen – speaker Morag Smith geologist/miner

Members from around District 1 including Association President Heather met in Aberdeen on 8th March. A true celebration for International Women’s Day with lots of friendship. Under the chairmanship of our DC Jean Hale our speaker in the morning was Morag Smith – a renowned Geologist and Miner from Arbroath. Acknowledging her Geography teacher, District Secretary Gladys, Morag gave a presentation of her career from studying in St. Andrews University to working in the Iron Ore mines in Australia’s outback as well as with the Petroleum Industry in Perth, Australia. However Morag and her husband are back in Arbroath brining up their children and have established a new venture ‘Stories of Stone’ – walking tours about the geology in Angus. After lunch there was the usual District Committee meeting and consensus on Finance and decisions for the next year. Photo above shows District Secretary, Gladys, Morag Smith and DC Jean Hale.
