D19 Penriths Interesting Speaker

Penrith Inner Wheel were entertained by an illustrated talk on Arthurian legends, given by guest Brian Gaudet, this is their press release in the local Penrith newspaper, The herald.

From the instantly recognisable iconic images of Arthur, Guinevere, Launcelot Morgana and Mordred, Brian drew together countless fascinating threads informed by these legends. Surprising us with local connections we might otherwise overlook, including Pendragon Castle near Mallerstang and King Arthur’s Round Table historical monument in Eamont Bridge.

We were reminded of the literary work of Antonia Frazer and Mark Twain, its influence on Hollywood and the musical theatre, as well as a political parallel with the illustrious American President J.F. Kennedy and his family, where power, wealth and beauty succumbed to the darker powers of assassination, suicide and racism.
