D15 Pontllanfraith Support Ukraine’s Children

Mary Waters, International Service Officer organised for donations to be sent to Ukraine Aid for orphaned children aged 6 - 14 years. Mary collected donations from our Inner Wheel members and also teamed up with a local knitting group. Donations from both groups included scarves, hats, socks and gloves together with toiletries and a large number of boxes of chocolates and sweets for Christmas, also monetary donations for fuel. The children were delighted with their gifts! The orphanage now has 68 children whose parents have died as a result of the war in Ukraine and we will continue to support this group. Cathrine Clark, President (on the left) and her friend from Ukraine, Sofia, were then interviewed by Ukrainian television. They explained the concept of ‘volunteering’ as this is not something that happens in Ukraine and also how our club teamed up with the local ‘knit and natter’ group. Thanks to Sofia who interpreted, the programme was a great success. Many thanks to Donna Jones, Pontllanfraith Club Correspondent for this report.
