In December 2025, as President of the Inner Wheel Club of St Helens, Katie Dalton was invited by the Mayor of St Helens, Severano Gomez-Asperon, to attend a meeting at the Town Hall to discuss his idea of a memorial to the women of St Helens who had served during times of conflict.
A Committee of local Councillors, Soroptimists and Inner Wheel members met to discuss ideas for the design and placement of the memorial.
Funding was obtained and plans were submitted to the planning Committee, who passed the design and placement.
On Sunday 26th April, the memorial was unveiled, to her surprise Katie, as President of the Inner Wheel Club of St Helens and Soroptimist President Linda were invited along with the Mayor, the Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside and the High Sherriff of Merseyside to unveil the memorial.
After the unveiling there was another surprise, the Inner Wheel Club of St Helens along with Soroptimists of St Helens were acknowledged on the side of the memorial, a fitting gesture as St Helens Inner Wheel Club celebrated their 100th Charter in July 2025.
