On 19 September, members of Bodmin IW together with family and friends recently attended Cornwall Hospices’ attempt to break the Guiness Word Record title for the largest cream tea party. The current record stood at 1,088 people but this was well and truly surpassed when 2,483 people gathered at the Royal Cornwall Showground to enjoy an afternoon of scones, cream and tea with entertainment from Johnny Cowling and the Community Rock Choir. Bodmin IW has a strong connection with Mt Edgcumbe Hospital through our Craft Group who have for sometime been donating items for sale to the hospital with all proceeds benefiting the welfare of their patients. Members of the group had also been asked to make 420 metres of bunting for the event so sowing machines had been working at full pelt for the weeks leading up to the tea. It was a huge community event with Inner Wheel being part of the success and a new record in the Guinness Book of Records for Cornwall.
