At our recent District Meeting there was a fabulous lady who shared how she began writing poetry to pass the time during Covid.
My group of ladies did something similar and held a poetry competition via WhatsApp and it reminded me of the poem I did.
I thought I would share it with you …… Dorothy Battarbee, Kirkby in Ashfield Inner Wheel Club.
2020 got off to a good start
But very quickly began to fall apart
First my Pete fell off a ladder
He broke his femur and I couldn’t be sadder
Then worse was to come with Covid-19
The most serious virus we had ever seen
With a stiff upper lip we went into lockdown
And all went quiet in our little town
Our NHS certainly came to the fore
And in support on Thursday we clapped at our door
Kids are now doing their lessons at home
And WhatsApping relations from their Smartphones
Even Inner Wheel Clubs have started to Zoom
So meetings can be held from their front rooms
Kirkby use WhatsApp to keep up with the news
And send messages, photos and read everyone’s views
Some families are passing the time by baking
With kids becoming cooks in the making
So into the food and cakes we all dig
And at the end of lockdown I will be as fat as a pig!
