Ely Inner wheel held their 77th Charter Dinner at Ely Golf Club. President Julia Smith welcomed members and guests including District Chairman Angela Leggett-Bond, Rotary members and the Speaker for the evening Jonathan Green from East Anglian Air Ambulance. Jonathan explained how EAAA began. It was founded by jockey Frankie Dettori after he was rescued from a plane crash by an RAF helicopter. This prompted him to start campaigning for an air ambulance for East Anglia. Today it covers Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire. Jonathan showed photos of the interior of helicopters which are crammed with state of the art life saving equipment, only just leaving just enough room for patient and doctor. It was comforting to learn that the doctors are recruited from among the top consultants at A and E departments for an 18 month period. President Julia thanked Jonathan for his informative talk and presented him with a cheque for £1000 with a promise of more to come later in the year
