Inner Wheel District 21

About District 21

District 21 can be found right in the heart of the Country. It covers the counties of Staffordshire, Shropshire and a part of the West Midlands known as the Black Country. Although the Black Country and surrounding areas are thought by many to be very industrialised and dismal that is far from the truth. We have areas of outstanding Natural Beauty including Cannock Chase, and The Shropshire Hills.  This together with such attractions as Alton Towers, Black Country Living Museum, Ironbridge with its many museums, Shugborough Hall and Royal Airforce Museum Cosford make it a very interesting place to live or visit.

It also gives us a wonderful opportunity to serve the community whilst enjoying our surroundings and the friendship being a member of Inner Wheel can offer.

We currently have 14 clubs within our area all of whom are thriving enjoying friendship and fun together, both during their club meetings but also at events and special occasions organised as either fundraisers or just to enjoy each other’s company.

District Chairman

District Chairman Norma Jukes

Welcome

I am very proud and feel privileged to be Chairman of District 21.  I have an excellent Executive Committee and such friendly and supportive clubs. I have for many years been a member of The Inner Wheel Club of Wednesfield and have always enjoyed the fun and friendship that being a member of Inner Wheel brings.

We, in District 21 are all working together to improve the lives of many in our area and do this without fuss quietly achieving an outstanding amount of what I would class as “good work” in the community.

We have enjoyed the Centenary Celebrations over the past 6 months and hopefully will continue our celebrations until the end of the year when we will once again celebrate our achievements as a more local level.

Each Club President nominates a charity for it to support as well as a District Chairmans Charity.
I have nominated “Staffordshire Lowland Search and Rescue” to support during my year in office.

I am particularly interested in their work searching for people, a lot of the time suffering from dementia, in all sorts of areas including housing estates, canal banks and open ground.
Hopefully we will be able to offer them financial support during the year.

Who we support

Staffordshire’s Lowland Search & Rescue Team, works in partnership with Staffordshire Police, West Midlands Ambulance Service, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue and Staffordshire Civil Contingencies Unit.
They are Staffordshire’s only approved volunteer lowland search & rescue team; with specialist training in locating and rescuing missing people in urban and rural lowland areas.
Staffordshire Search & Rescue Team (SSART) is a highly skilled team of dedicated volunteers who give up a lot of their own valuable time to provide a service to the emergency services in the utmost professional manner.
Although based primarily in Staffordshire , they do, in fact operate in the whole of District 21. SSART often venture outside of the county to assist neighbouring Lowland Rescue teams on callouts.  They also provide fully equipped 4×4 vehicles to assist with evacuation, recovery & logistics during adverse weather wherever they may be required.
The team is funded entirely through donations from the public and local businesses, and each volunteer has to buy their own personal equipment and indeed their training courses.
