About District 3
District 3 consists of 11 Clubs stretching from Berwick-upon-Tweed which is close to the Scottish Border to Guisborough & Great Ayton which is the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales and Moors and across to Hexham & Tynedale which is in the Tyne Valley. Within this area we have stunning beaches, incredible scenery and more Castles than anywhere else in the country. Clubs meet every month apart from August. Each Club arranges its own speakers and events. Some Clubs still have InterClub and Birthday lunches which are always very enjoyable events.
Not quite at the halfway point is the iconic Angel of the North. It is 20 meters high and is embedded on concrete piles weighing 150 tonnes. These anchor the Angel to rock 20m underground. On a sunny day the Angel’s rusty patina takes on a warm glow that can be seen for miles around. The wings of the Angel are angled forward at 3.5 degrees to create a sense of embrace.
District Chairman
District Chairman Margaret Compton
Welcome
I joined Inner wheel in 1990 after moving into the North East in 1987 and I have been a proud member of IW Club of Crook ever since.
I am delighted to be District Chairman for the 2nd time, nine years after the first, 9 years older but not sure about wiser, we’ll see!!!
I hope that by us working hard and promoting our wonderful organisation we can attract new members so that they too can benefit from the service, fun and friendship so readily offered.
I am looking forward to visiting and working with all our members in District 3. We are much smaller in numbers than in the past. We are all involved with our own Communities so let’s have lots of fun, make new friends and continue with the Objects of Inner Wheel.

Who we support
The Charity we have chosen as a District is:-
‘The Bridge Young Carers within Butterwick Hospice’
You are a young carer if you:
1. help to care for someone in your family with a disability, illness, mental health condition, or drug or alcohol problem.
2. are under 18.
Being a young carer can involve helping someone to do their daily routine, helping with housework and being there to support their family.
The Bridge supports young carers and their families across County Durham. The service ensures that children and young people are protected from inappropriate caring and have the support they need to learn, develop and thrive, to enjoy positive childhoods and to achieve their full potential. We support children, young people and their families who have a challenging caring responsibility. We help and support the whole family.
