About our area
Kirkcudbright, population about 3500, is situated in Southern Scotland, on the estuary of the River Dee in the heart of Galloway. The town is an ‘Artists’ Town and holds regular art exhibitions. Many famous artists have lived and worked in the area, which is surrounded by beautiful countryside.
Kirkcudbright has many attractions and countless clubs and societies. It boasts a panoramic 18-hole Golf Course, a Wildlife Conservation Park, a Marina and working harbour and a community run Swimming Pool. Others places of interest are the Museum, Broughton House, a National Trust property where E.A.Hornel lived and Maclellan’s Castle.
The Summer Festivities run events all through the summer, culminating in the Tattoo, always a show-stopper! There is also a Jazz Festival in June and an Arts and Crafts Trail in July. Kirkcudbright has a wealth of things to see and do in a wonderful setting.
Club President
Vivian McAlpine
It is my pleasure to have the opportunity to be
President of Kirkcudbright Inner Wheel. I was born in Kirkcudbright and lived in the town until 1968 when I left to study in Glasgow. In 1976 I got married and we travelled to South Africa intending to live there for 2 years. For me 2 years became 42 years!
I retired back to Kirkcudbright in 2018. I had heard of Inner Wheel and was very familiar with Rotary so when I was invited to join Inner Wheel in 2019, I found myself as part of a welcoming, friendly, resourceful and socially concerned group of ladies.
It is a privilege to follow in the footsteps of so many former Presidents of Kirkcudbright Inner Wheel and I am aware I follow in the “footsteps of giants”. My motto for the year ahead is :
“Good thinkers comprehend the POWER of shared thinking”.
